Sarah Myerson is an ordained cantor (Master of Sacred Music & Diploma of Hazzan, Jewish Theological Seminary) actively working to connect Jewish egalitarian-religious with Yiddish secular/cultural communities. She serves as the Kol Bo Spiritual Leader of Roosevelt Island Jewish Congregation and lives in Brooklyn, New York. She is proficient in Yiddish, having studied the language in New York (JTS, YIVO-Bard, Workers Circle) and Israel (Naomi Prower Kadar, Beit Ben Yehuda). A master of traditional Yiddish singing, she teaches Yiddish song workshops with Ethel Raim and others, at BKCM, UCLA, YNY and YSW (USA, Israel and Europe), and coaches private students. Since 2008, she has led Yiddish social dancing at weddings, B'nei Mitzvah and other events, taught Yiddish dance workshops and private lessons in the USA (Arbeter Ring MA & NY, Eldridge Street NY, Limmud Boston, NY Klezmer Series, Seattle Yiddish Fest, Yiddish New York), Canada (Ashkenaz, Klezkanada), Mexico, Europe (Klezfest London, Kleznorth, Shtetl Berlin, Yiddish Summer Weimar), Israel, and Australia (Cobargo Folk Festival, Folk Dance Australia, Illawarra Folk Festival, National Folk Festival). Sarah also coordinated the Yiddish Dance Workshop for YSW (2018, 2019) and is coordinating the Yiddish dance program for YNY 2024. Sarah writes and performs new music, for example with Ilya Shneyveys as Jewish spiritual music duo Shekedina.
